Staff at Oprah Winfrey's Academy Accused of Sexual, Physical Abuse

Oprah Winfrey has been left devastated by allegations students at her Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa have been sexually and physically abused by staff. The US chat show host, who opened school for the gifted near Johannesburg in January, broke down in tears at a meeting with the students' parents and begged for forgiveness.

"I've disappointed you. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry," Oprah said.The 53-year-old TV star cancelled some appointments after allegations emerged that one of the matrons fondled a girl and that other pupils had been physically abused. One student claimed a matron grabbed her by the throat and threw her against a wall, while other girls have said the "dorm parent" swore and screamed at them, assaulted them and sexually fondled at least one girl. The alleged incidents came to light when one of the pupils ran away from the academy.

Oprah, who has spoken openly about being abused as a child, has given the girls her personal phone number, email address and postal address so they can contact her at any time. South African police and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit are still investigating the case.

"Lost" Star Daniel Kim Seized over Drink-Driving, Released on Bail

"Lost" actor Daniel Dae Kim was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in Hawaii are later released on bail, BBC reported on Saturday. Kim, 39, who plays tough guy Jin-Soo Kwon in the TV series, said he is "deeply ashamed and embarrassed" about his arrest.

In 2005, former co-stars Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal limit and was sentenced to five days in jail and USD 357 fine. Watros, seen on the show as the character Libby, had her driving licence suspended for 90 days and paid a USD 312 fine. Last year, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, known as Mr Eko in "Lost", was accused of disobeying a police officer and driving without a licence. The charges against him, however, were later dropped.

Britney Spears Gets Clear of Hit-and-run Accusation, Still Faces Licence Charge

Hit-and-run charges against pop princess Britney Spears dropped after she compensated the other car's driver, BBC reported Friday. Now the 25-year-old star is still facing a charge of sitting behind the wheel without a valid licence.

Spears' defence entered a not guilty plea on her behalf, and a further hearing on the case was set for November 26. The singer was convicted of bumping into a parked car in full view of photographers, before leaving the scene on August 6. "The owner of the car hit was satisfied with the resolution and did not want to go forward with the hit-and-run charge," Britney's lawyer said.

An attorney had offered the singer a plea deal on the licence charge, which would have resulted in her being placed on probation for a year. Spears' lawyer said he believed a plea was unnecessary because the pop star has recently got a California driving licence. He added that the singer had a licence in Louisiana, but she had not been able to obtain one in California because a camera was not available when she applied for one. Meanwhile, a court hearing in Ms Spears' custody fight with former husband Kevin Federline over their two sons is scheduled for Friday.

The Titanic star and Israeli model Bar Rafaeli, who have been dating for almost two years, are said to have ended their relationship last week after Bar visited Leonardo on the set of his latest movie Body of Lies. Lindsay Lohan Leaves Rehab, Starts Shooting New Movie

Actress Lindsay Lohan has left rehab after over a month spent in the Utah centre and completing her course to get clean, MTV.uk reported. The Hollywood star will now start filming a movie, called "Dare to Love Me".

"I decided to stay in Utah until it is time to shoot the movie and then I plan on returning to the centre so I can stay focused and avoid other distractions," Lohan said. The star has been sent to Cirque Lodge Treatment Center after serving a one-day jail sentence, imposed on her over drink driving and drug charges in the end of August, that being her second arrest.

"That was my rock-bottom. Everything in my life came to a point where I had to make a decision; the arrest that night helped me come to a point where I had to make one," the actress shared."The rehab experience was sobering and humbling. It made me look at myself, and all of the people, places and things in my life in a different way. I was in there for substance abuse, after all," the star added.Lohan faced seven charges, including driving over the alcohol limit and being under the influence of cocaine. She avoided more serious charges because she was only in possession of a small quantity of drugs when arrested.

Orlando Bloom Unharmed in LA Car Crash

"Pirates of the Caribbean" star Orlando Bloom was in a minor car crash in LA early Friday, according to police, US media reported.

The actor told officials he was being chased by paparazzi after leaving a Hollywood nightclub around 2:15am in his 2003 Toyota Matrix. The 30-year-old actor claimed a photographer in an SUV made a sudden lane change and cut him off.

Although he wasn't injured in the accident, two passengers in his car were. Police said a 30-year-old woman in the front seat got cuts and bruises on her face, while a 35-year-old woman in the back seat fractured her neck. Both were treated at a local hospital.

Bloom's publicist Robin Baum said the woman in the back seat only "sustained a minor neck injury". "No alcohol was involved, and he wasn't speeding," an officer said. There was minor damage to his car and the parked car, she said.

No date was given for him to start or complete the service, but he wants to perform it as quickly as possible, his attorney said. The 35-year-old rapper pleaded guilty last month to one count of felony possession of a dangerous weapon.

"24" TV drama star Kiefer Sutherland has been sentenced to 48 days in jail after pleading no contest to charges of drink-driving, BBC reported on Wednesday.

Under a deal with prosecutors, the star will serve the punishment during breaks in filming on the seventh series of the hit "24". Sutherland, 40, was arrested in Los Angeles last month while on probation for a 2004 drink-driving offence.

The sentence consists of 30 days for driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit, and 18 days for violating his probation.

"I apologize for my poor judgement and for the distress the case caused to my family, friends and co-workers," the actor said in a statement.
